
How are the daily plans structured?
There are 8 elements to each daily plan:
1. Planning and preparation.
2. ELDA and ELDA observation for the day to record.
3. Theme discussion.
4. An illustrated, teacher-directed PLAY-BASED concrete activity.
5. Presenting the ACTIVITY SHEET. Illustrated step-by-step suggestions.
6. ASSESSMENT to record.
7. An illustrated, teacher-directed PLAY-BASED enrichment activity.
8. Links to a song and a story that relate to the day.

A summary of the preparation needed for each day.

Planning and Preparation
Day 1
1. Download and print the pictures for the discussion.
2. Download and print a copy of the Activity sheet for each child.
3. Large circles cut out from red and blue card or painted scrap card.
4. Red and blue paper and red and blue dot stickers.
2. The ELDA for the day
There is one ELDA a day to focus on, with an OBSERVATION SHEET for each child and each theme. Find this in the PDF with the Activity Sheets. Record your observation on the observation sheet with a tick in the box.


3. Theme Discussion
Ideas for a discussion about the theme or concept of the day with visual aids. Some online and some to print.
3. Theme Discussion - Orange and purple
Show the children pictures of things that are orange and purple. Ask the children if these things can be another colour, e.g. can a carrot be blue? Generally man-made things can be any colour but things in nature can’t be.

4. Teacher-Directed Concrete Activity
An illustrated, teacher-directed PLAY-BASED concrete activity, which is about the theme or concept.
4. Teacher-directed concrete activity-Comparing colours
1. Cut out a large circles from orange and purple cardboard or cardboard painted orange and purple.
2. Have the children bring objects from around the room to compare and to see if they are orange ...
3. ... or purple.
4. Make a display on the circles with the objects you have collected.

5. Presenting the Activity Sheet
Illustrated, step-by-step suggestions for how to present the activity sheet for maximum effect.
5. Presenting the Activity Sheet
1. Download and print a copy of the activity sheet for each child, including the colour cut-outs.
2. Give the pictures from the colour cutting page to the children to cut out.
3. Paste down the pictures next to the matching pictures.
4. Colour in the pictures to match the purple and green coloured pictures.

6. Assessment
Make your assessment and record it on the Assessment sheet. There is an assessment sheet for each child and each theme. Find this in the PDF with the Activity Sheets.


8. A song and a story
Links to a YouTube song and story that relate to the theme. Use these at any time during the day.


7. Teacher-Directed Activity
An illustrated, teacher-directed PLAY-BASED enrichment activity which could be a game, art activity or gross-motor activity, etc.
7. Teacher-directed activity - Art activity
1. Give each child an egg box with some yellow, blue and red paint in (or share between two children).
2. The children mix yellow and blue to make green. Red and blue to make purple.
3. Red and yellow to make orange.
4. Use all the colours to paint a rainbow or other picture.
