3. Discussion

Discussion

Red, yellow and blue
(make your observations during the discussion). Show the children pictures of red, yellow and blue houses or draw houses on the board using only red, yellow and blue chalk. Use different colours for the roofs, doors, windows, etc. Ask the children what colour each roof or door is.

Download and print the PDF. Place the pictures into a plastic file pocket or laminate them. Use for the discussion about red, yellow and blue.

4. Teacher-directed concrete activity

Matching colours game. 1. Paint three paper plates red, yellow and blue respectively. Either buy red, yellow and blue plastic clothes pegs or paint wooden pegs.

2. Play in small groups and have enough for each child to get at least 3 pegs.

3. The children take turns to peg their pegs onto the matching plates.

4. Swop colours and play again or repeat with the next group.

(Make your assessment after this activity) 1. Print a copy of the activity sheet for each child.

2. Give the children the coloured doors from the cutting page to cut out.

3. Paste down a door on each house. Colour in the roof to match the door.

4. Colour in the rest of the house and draw in a tree.

7. Teacher-directed activity

Art activity - Necklace. 1. Cut shapes from red, yellow, blue, orange, green and purple paper or card and punch a hole in each one.

2. Paint some large pasta (like penne or macaroni) in the same colours.

3. Cut a length of wool for each child and tie a shape to one end to prevent the shapes from slipping off.

4. The children thread shapes and pasta to make a colourful necklace.
