Make contact with others using a variety of ways to do so (gestures, talk, movements, etc.).
Observe and note during the day:
Does the child talk to the other children? Observe throughout the day.
3. Discussion
Discussion
Primary and secondary colours. Show the children a colour wheel. Name all the colours and talk about which colours are primary colours (red, yellow and blue). Which are secondary colours? (Orange, green and purple.) The colours each side of orange are used to mix orange (red and yellow). The same for purple and green.
4. Teacher-directed concrete activity
Colour wheel. 1. Use another copy of the colour wheel in the PDF or draw a colour wheel and colour it in.
2. Colour in according to this code:
1 - red,
2 - yellow,
3 - blue,
4 - orange, 5 - green and
6 - purple.
3. Cut the circle into sections and have the children help to put it back together.
4. Repeat until everyone has had a turn to put a section in place.

(Make your assessment after this activity) 1. Print a copy of the activity sheet for each child.
2. Give the coloured circles from the cutting page to the children to cut out.
3. Paste a circle down in the centre of each flower.
4. Give the children red, yellow and blue crayons to colour in the other parts of the flowers.

Colour recognition. Can the child recognise orange, purple and green when you ask him to point to each colour?

Matching colours. Did the child recognise the yellow, red and blue crayons?
Quick definition
Colour recognition refers to being able to recognise (identify) and name colours.
7. Teacher-directed activity
Memory game. 1. Make a memory game using the pages in the PDF. Paste down onto cards and/or laminate.
2. Play in small groups. Place all the cards face down in neat rows.
3. The children take turns to turn over two cards. If they are not the same they turn them back over.
4. If the two cards are a match, the child keeps them. Carry on until all the pairs are matched. Mix the cards up ready for the next group.
