Theme 1 - Summer

Teaching tips
-
In the beginning of the year make several name tags for each child. Choose a simple picture or symbol for each child too that you draw or paste down next to their name. The symbol will help them to recognise which locker, chair or space on the carpet is theirs. By attaching these labels with velcro, you will be able to move them around during the year as you need to.
-
Prepare a theme table the Friday before you begin a new theme. Collect pictures, books, toys and real objects to display on the table and for the children to explore.

Teaching tip
During free time (such as in the afternoons) have the children help you to make the resources for the following week. They can assist you with colouring in and cutting out games, finding pictures and making charts. -
Create a theme file with dividers for each theme. You can store all the games, charts, pictures and any other resources you made for the theme in this file inside plastic sleeves. This way they are easy to find and remain in a good condition for future use.

Day 1
2. Theme discussion
Make a large chart of a simple face, draw it on the board or print the chart in the PDF on A3. Point to the eyes on the chart and have the children touch their eyes. Repeat with the nose, mouth, ears, etc. Where is your nose? Where is the nose on the chart? Where are your eyes? Where are the eyes on the chart? Continue with the rest of the face.
